For those who have followed my work since my earliest sketches, you know that precision has always been my guiding principle. When bringing Maomao ( The Apothecary Diaries ) into the world of paper sculptures, the goal was to translate the character's complexity through my trusted tool: the craft knife.
In this piece, every detail follows the tradition of my studio: absolute hand-cutting . There are no machines mediating the contact between the artist and the paper.
The depth of Maomao's gaze was built layer by layer, respecting the character's anatomy.
The folds of the garments and the details of the hair were sculpted one by one, guaranteeing a unique piece that no mass production can replicate.
Using a Shadow Box elevates the manual process, allowing the shadows cast by the paper to take on a life of their own in the artwork.
I had the pleasure of sending this Maomao to Lisa. Receiving such enthusiastic feedback confirms that the dedication applied to each hand-cut piece transcends borders and connects collectors to the creative process.
